Craig Froude
Executive Vice President
Craig Froude is executive vice president and general manager of WebMD Health Services. He has provided leadership and direction for this growing area of WebMD since late 2002. Previously, Mr. Froude served as founder, chairman, and CEO of Wellmed, Inc., which was acquired by WebMD. Under his leadership, Wellmed Inc. earned numerous awards and recognition, and was named one of Inc. Magazine's "500 Fastest Growing Companies" in 2001. Mr. Froude has also served in senior management positions in various technology companies, most recently for Creative Multimedia and Central Point Software.
Mr. Froude is currently on the advisory board for the Oregon State University Austin Entrepreneurship Program. He is a graduate of Oregon State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in finance.
Chris Brooks
Vice President of Technology
Prior to joining WebMD Health Services, Chris served as Chief Technology Officer of TSSI and Corillian Corporation. While at Corillian, Chris was responsible for all product software development and the technology roadmap for the $60 million publically-traded enterprise software company. Chris has an established track record leading successful technology organizations. He is a proven leader with 17 years of experience delivering high quality software products and has reached industry-leading levels of productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Chris has a Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara and BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Chris is President and Board Chairman of TechStart Education Foundation and is very active in promoting technology and computer science education in Oregon K-12 schools.
Matt Donaldson
Senior Vice President of Health Coaching
Matt Donaldson is responsible for the strategic development and ongoing delivery of the Health Coaching business for WebMD Health Services. Most recently, Mr. Donaldson was executive vice president of professional services at Emdeon Business Services, where he developed and implemented growth strategies targeted toward the professional clinical market, including physicians, practice management system vendors, billing services, and clearing houses.
Prior to Emdeon, Mr. Donaldson served as senior vice president of Memberworks, a provider of lifestyle membership programs to the consumer market, overseeing its North American business. Before this, Mr. Donaldson worked for Medco, a prescription benefit management company, where he implemented strategies and programs with providers to optimize prescribing behaviors. Mr. Donaldson has also held general management roles with other companies throughout his career at Consumer Health Services and MCI.
Mr. Donaldson graduated from Washington and Lee University with a bachelor's degree in commerce.
Scott Heimes
Senior Vice President of Marketing
Scott Heimes oversees marketing, consumer engagement, analytics and strategic planning for WebMD Health Services. Previously he was President of Heimes & Co., a consulting firm specializing in helping healthcare and retail organizations drive strategic growth by optimizing their marketing, sales, business development and e-commerce operations.
Prior to starting Heimes & Co., Scott was senior vice president of Consumer Solutions for OptumHealth, a health management and well-being services company that is one of six operating companies within UnitedHealth Group. In this role, Scott led OptumHealth’s direct-to-consumer media and e-commerce businesses, its interactive health management solutions, and the company’s consumer engagement services agency. Before joining UnitedHealth Group, he was group manager of interactive marketing for Target Corporation, where he oversaw the marketing planning and strategy for Target’s interactive marketing and innovation efforts.
Scott holds degrees in business administration and English literature from the University of St. Thomas.
Katie Hollister
Vice President of Client Services
Katie Hollister is vice president of client services for WebMD Health Services. Prior to WebMD Katie was vice president of worldwide client services for Accelrys, a scientific business intelligent software vendor. While at Accelrys, she built a consulting department and a contract research department that increased services revenues from less than 1% to more than 10% of total revenue, and helped to move the company from an annual loss of $20M to a profit of $7M.
Katie has extensive experience in healthcare IT, having held executive-level client service positions at Sunquest Information Systems, an acute care software firm, and Triple G, a laboratory information systems provider. She holds Masters’ Degrees in both Clinical Chemistry and Adult Education.
Margaret (Meg) Rush
Vice President of Product Management
Meg Rush is responsible for directing new product innovation and product development for WebMD Health Services. She is part of the broader operations organization and is the liaison for the Company's sales, business development, and client services executives.
Ms. Rush's background in healthcare portals, product strategy, systems development, and technology consulting spans over 20 years. Most recently, she was responsible for driving the development of the consumer portal at UnitedHealthcare. Additionally, Ms. Rush worked for Arthur Andersen Business Consulting—delivering systems, operations, process, and technology solutions as part of the National Financial Services practice.
After graduating St. John Fisher College with an economics degree, Ms. Rush received a master's degree in management from the Penn State University.
Paul Sonnenschein
Vice President of Administration
Paul Sonnenschein has been responsible for finance, legal, and privacy matters for WebMD Health Services and its predecessors since 2003.
Previously, Mr. Sonnenschein was COO of Sapient Health Network, an online provider of personalized health content and applications for consumers. After the acquisition of Sapient by WebMD in early 1999, Mr. Sonnenschein served as vice president of business development, focusing on content and distribution for the WebMD consumer portal business.
Prior to his eight years in the online consumer health services field, Mr. Sonnenschein worked in the publishing and direct marketing industries, principally at Time Warner, in a variety of financial, marketing, and general management roles.
Mr. Sonnenschein holds a bachelor's degree and MBA from Columbia University.
William Spehr
Chief Sales Officer
William ("Bill") Spehr is responsible for the consolidated sales organization at WebMD Health Services. He oversees all sales initiatives within existing and new markets and across all major lines of business. In this position, Bill leverages more than twenty-five years of success and experience in the healthcare industry. His unique perspective enables him to work with employers, health plans, and all industry stakeholders to design and implement strategic solutions that address fundamental population health challenges and issues.
Prior to joining WebMD, Bill served as a senior vice president of sales and account services at CVS Caremark where he had profit and loss responsibility for its $15 billion health plan segment. Under Bill’s leadership, the segment grew rapidly as an innovative supplier to Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, national for-profit plans, insurance carriers, Medicare Part D, and the managed Medicaid sector. Bill has held leadership roles at United HealthGroup and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and was a member of the health and welfare consulting practice at Buck Consultants, Inc.
Bill holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the State University of New York (College at Oneonta), as well as a master’s degree in public administration, with a concentration in health policy analysis and management, from New York University. Additionally, he is an active member of both the Sales Leadership Roundtable (division of the Executive Board) and the Strategic Account Management Association (SAMA).
Brad Lawson
Senior Vice President of Corporate Market Sales
Brad Lawson is responsible for direct sales and marketing initiatives for WebMD's health coaching services. Mr. Lawson joined WellMed (prior to its acquisition by WebMD) in 2002, bringing ten years of sales and sales management experience in the healthcare technology and enterprise software industries to WebMD.
Prior to joining WebMD, Mr. Lawson managed several sales districts for statistical and data-mining solutions vendor SAS Institute. He has contributed to several publications focused on sales management, and to a research publication by the Benefits Roundtable on the use of HRAs in employer sponsored plans.
Mr. Lawson has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Cincinnati and a master's degree from the University of Dayton. He has also completed an executive education program at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Brad Bowman, MD
Vice President, WebMD Health Services
Dr. Brad Bowman develops unique clinical information systems and proprietary software programs that analyze the clinical, genetic, and environmental basis of common and treatable illnesses. With more than 17 years of experience as a computer programmer, Dr. Bowman, a pioneer in health risk assessments, is responsible for the creation of WebMD's Digital DNATM and HealthQuotientSM systems. Dr. Bowman is a practicing physician and serves as an assistant professor of medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University. Previously, Dr. Bowman served as chairman of the Division of Internal Medicine at Legacy Portland Hospitals. Dr. Bowman has participated in cardiac research and has published several articles. He received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Washington.
Louise Chang, MD
Medical Editor, WebMD
Dr. Louise Chang is part of the WebMD medical editing team and is responsible for reviewing WebMD content, news, and feature stories to ensure their medical accuracy. In this capacity, Dr. Chang shares the WebMD mission to provide the most accurate and useful medical information for people. With broad experience of both inpatient and outpatient practice in urban and suburban settings, Dr. Chang has always considered herself a patient advocate and educator at heart. Immediately prior to joining WebMD, Dr. Chang worked as an attending physician and clinical instructor at Grady Memorial Hospital as part of the Emory School of Medicine in downtown Atlanta. In this role, Dr. Chang was responsible for seeing patients, working with, and teaching medical residents and students.
A member of both the American College of Physicians and the Society of General Internal Medicine, Dr. Chang's prior research work has been published and presented at regional and national conferences. Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Chang attended medical school at New York Medical College. She completed her internal medicine residency at Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York City, where she also served as a chief resident from 2001-2002. Dr. Chang holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
Brunilda Nazario, MD
Senior Medical Editor, WebMD
Dr. Brunilda Nazario has been with WebMD since 2002 and is responsible for reviewing WebMD content, news, feature stories, and graphics to ensure their medical accuracy. Additionally, Dr. Nazario serves as the health expert for Women's Health Magazine. Dr. Nazario was invited to be a consultant for the Therapeutic Options for Menopausal Health group in 1999 and 2000 and the Council on Hormone Education in 2002. Her interest in heart disease and lipid disorders has led to her participation in the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine Lipid Disorders Training Center Program.
Prior to WebMD, Dr. Nazario consulted in endocrinology, focusing on hypertension, lipid and diabetes management, nutritional and weight management, and endocrine gland disorders. She has also worked with many women suffering from reproductive endocrine issues such as polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism, basic infertility management, and menopausal management with a focus on osteoporosis.
Previously, Dr. Nazario served on the faculty at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, while maintaining a private practice in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Prior to that, she was a faculty member at the University of California in Irvine, which she joined after completing a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at that university. During her fellowship, Dr. Nazario was involved in research on vascular peptides and their interaction, for which she received the Merck Senior Fellow Award for Notable Research in 1994.
Dr. Nazario is board-certified in both internal medicine and in endocrinology and metabolism. She is affiliated with numerous organizations including the American College of Physicians, The Endocrine Society, and the American Diabetes Association for Health Professionals. Dr. Nazario is also a member of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Advisory Committee for the Endocrine Society.
After obtaining her medical degree at the University of Noreste School of Medicine in Mexico, Dr. Nazario completed her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and at the University of California in Irvine.
Michael W. Smith, MD
Medical Editor-In-Chief, WebMD
Dr. Michael W. Smith is the chief medical editor at WebMD Health, in charge of original WebMD content creation, including medical news, features, tools, and health reference information. Dr. Smith oversees a staff of editors, writers, and physicians responsible for creating content and assuring its continued medical accuracy and relevance to the WebMD audience. He has been with WebMD since 1999.
Dr. Smith has appeared on Fox News, DirectTV's Retirement Living channel, and in multiple print publications, including Newsweek and USA Weekend. In interviews with local radio stations and newspapers across the country, Dr. Smith has spoken on topics ranging from hangover remedies to navigating the Internet for accurate, credible health information. As a general internist, Dr. Smith's interest and knowledge span a wide array of medical topics, but he is particularly interested in prevention and helping people live a healthy, active lifestyle. Having developed ankylosing spondylitis in his college years, arthritis is an area of personal interest to him.
Prior to WebMD, Dr. Smith was in private practice as primary care physician in a primary care network in Atlanta. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association.
Board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Smith completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon and at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta, serving as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Smith is a 1994 graduate of the Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia.
Kathleen M. Zelman, MPH, RD, LD
Director of Nutrition, WebMD Health, WebMD Weight Loss Clinic
Kathleen Zelman, MPH, RD, LD, is director of nutrition for WebMD Health and the WebMD Weight Loss Clinic. In this role, she oversees diet, nutrition, and food content for both WebMD and the Weight Loss Clinic. Among other duties, Ms. Zelman serves as senior nutrition correspondent, writes weekly features, columns, newsletters, provides expert editorial review of diet and nutrition articles, and covers national meetings.
Ms. Zelman has extensive media experience, including co-hosting a weekly radio program, 12 years as a national spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, and numerous print and television appearances, including CNN, Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. In 2007, Ms. Zelman was awarded the prestigious American Dietetic Association “Media Excellence Award” for her contribution and commitment to educating consumers about food and nutrition issues through the media. She is a contributing writer for newspapers, magazines, and books, including Paul Prudhomme's A Fork in the Road, Healthy Eating for Babies and Toddlers, and A Harvest of Healing Foods.
Ms. Zelman has been a dietetic internship director at Ochsner Medical Institutions and assistant professor of nutrition at St. Mary's Dominican College, both in New Orleans. She has extensive experience working with children and weight management clients, chefs, and restaurants in analysis and development of healthy recipes.
Active in local, state, and national dietetic associations, Ms. Zelman served as a trustee of the Georgia Dietetic Foundation and is in her second term as the Georgia delegate to the American Dietetic Association. She received her master's degree in public health from Tulane University and her bachelor of science from Montclair State University.
