“They’re a very trusted brand, so our population feels safe and secure using those applications.”
Martin Ahrens
Director of Health Management Services
NRECA
Collaborating with WebMd allows us to work with a strategic partner who’s at the cutting edge of technology. They’re a very trusted brand so our population
00:08
feels safer secure using those those applications they’re doing the research right now to determine what motivates people to
00:15
interact with their website what’s user friendly what’s going to engage them in you know in a meaningful experience and so partnering with an
00:23
organization like that allows us to communicate our programs much more effectively than we would otherwise.
“Being able to help our employees be their best and bring their best selves to work is only going to be a better environment for everybody.”
Tanya Riley
Director of Benefits Programs
ZOLL Medical Corp.
Successful companies have successful wellness programs. Wellness programs benefit the organization in so many ways. Um, presenteeism, more involved employees,
00:03
more engaged employees, employees who are able to come into work and focus on what needs to be done at work rather than focusing on
00:12
outside interferences. Um, I feel that the program that we have, um, which has the biometric and blood screening, health assessment questionnaire, health
00:21
coaching that we do, um, really provides the company with a solid foundation. Um, for the rest of our benefit programs.
00:32
It really supports everything that we do from a holistic well-being perspective. When you meet somebody that you’ve made a difference in their lives,
00:41
that you know you’re doing the right thing for employees and for the company. We’ve really been able to show leadership that mental health
00:49
and financial wellness are also two huge aspects of employee well-being. Being able to help our employees be their best
00:57
and to bring their best selves to work is only gonna be a better environment for everybody.
01:07
“We’re seeing a health risk improvement of 8.2% in our three-year cohort.”
Jennifer Hickey
Wellness Coordinator
City of Aurora
We truly value our employees, um, and we care for them. And so that the well-being and program is kind of an extension of that care
00:03
that we have in all of our benefit programs. We’re always really employee centric and employee focused. Through WebMD ONE, our health assessment data,
00:11
we’ve been able to see year over year increase in participation. Our health, the three-year cohort that we just got the data on, which was very exciting.
00:20
Um, we’re seeing a health risk improvement in our health risk stratification of 8.2% of those employees in that three-year cohort.
00:27
Employees feel like there’s a lot of different ways they can engage in our programs as well that support kind of that holistic well-being.
00:35
The program only will get you so far. You really wanna work on culture and that’s where our, the leadership buy-in comes in.
00:41
I think really starting to de-stigmatize mental health throughout the organization is important, and I do think that leadership can help do that.
00:47
Um, kind of, you know, sharing their personal stories if they’re comfortable, comfortable showing vulnerability, um, really helps kind of set the stage that mental health is important
00:55
and valued in the organization.

“When we’re sorting fruits and vegetables at the food bank, our CEO is right alongside us. Leading by example is the biggest impact for our employees.”
Teri Helmke
Dean Health Plan
We are a community health plan, so it’s very important that not only we focus on and support our own employee health,
00:03
but also all of the communities that we are working with. There are several ways that WebMD has helped us
00:11
as a health plan to support our membership. Um, one is that we have a claims driven reward system. We have used the WebMD Messenger
00:18
and we customize the message to Medicare. And we also take a really high tech, which is where we encompass our WebMD partnership,
00:29
and high touch approach to our wellness programs. So our health promotion team interacts on a daily basis with our employer groups
00:40
and our members to make sure that they’re connecting with the resources that they need. If someone comes to us
00:48
and say they want to focus on diabetes as their first step, if they don’t have the financial resources or they can’t, you know, they can’t afford their food
00:55
or their medications, those are the things we’re going to work on. We’re not gonna jump into diabetes. We’re gonna make sure those basic needs are met first.
01:06
It’s important that we provide that one-on-one help to get people connected to the resources based on whatever they are needing at the time.
01:14
Even more important, our leaders are involved in initiatives. We just had a March of Dimes walk. Every one of our executives was participating in the walk in
01:22
all of our different locations. Special Olympics fundraiser, our executives were polar plunging and jumping into that freezing cold water.
01:33
When we’re out sorting fruits and vegetables at the food bank, our CEO is alongside of us doing that, and I think that leading by example
01:42
is the biggest impact for our employees.

“Now I can run almost two miles every night, ride my bike, go swimming. I can do so much more.”

I have a sit-down job. I spend three hours a day sitting in my car commuting back and forth to work. It was a pretty sedentary life.
00:08
Never put a whole lot of thought into my health and that of my family. About a year and a half ago I became very sick
00:15
my health really played a big role in that and the complications that I ended up incurring I really decided that i didn’t want to
00:23
live like that anymore. I didn’t want to feel like that or be sick like that again. I started working with Karen in
00:30
April of 2013. The biggest challenges for Karen were time. Just being a busy mom, being a wife
00:38
and a full-time employee, my health coach played a tremendous role. I felt like she really did understand, you know, where I was coming from
00:45
and you know what i was facing. Her goals with the program were to work on making lifestyle changes with
00:52
her diet and exercise to help lose weight, be healthier for her family, to keep up with her kids, to be more productive with her job.
01:01
I had a treadmill that was just gathering dust. It was a place to start, you know, instead of just sitting here watching tv
01:08
I can run on my treadmill and watch tv. She was walking every single day for 30 minutes on her treadmill so we just talked about ways to
01:16
add some intensity to the workouts. I made everything for myself short-term goals because then you know okay I accomplished that one
01:23
and I felt good about it and then move on to the next one. I always talk to her about let’s put the scale aside and let’s look at how you’re
01:30
feeling compared to when you started feeling just happier overall. My health coach, she really kept me motivated just her enthusiasm
01:39
for me with what I had accomplished so far and she knew I was capable of accomplishing so much more. Her biggest goal was really just to
01:46
start having the family home for dinner each night. Her and her family were eating out often just due to being really busy. We talked a lot about planning,
01:54
preparation, getting to the grocery store at least once a week to have the right foods on hand every week. I, I could just do so much
02:02
more and you know I really just saw the you know the weight melt, melt away. She lost over 80 pounds,
02:11
she lowered her cholesterol and her ldl cholesterol both by around 40 points each, and she cut her triglycerides in half. Now I can
02:20
run almost two miles every night, ride my bike or go swimming. I can accomplish and do
02:28
so much more. I really enjoy seeing people make that lifestyle change seeing someone have an aha moment or
02:36
have that light bulb go off where okay yeah this is something that’s realistic. I can do this. I can stick with this plan. I want to be able to be out there and
02:44
doing those active things with my kids and I want to be around to watch them grow to hopefully see grandkids someday that’s really my
02:52
hope it was just to be there for my family and enjoy life.
“If someone told you that you could feel like you got 15 years back and you could have a really good night’s sleep, why wouldn’t you do that?”
Lisa Adams
Alpine School District / EMI Health
Uh, hello. My name’s Lisa and about a year and a half ago, um, I was at a job fair and they had a health and benefit table.
00:03
And this woman came up to me and said, would you like to do a 15 minute screening? She did a little finger prick.
00:14
I am shocked that it changed the whole trajectory of the next two years for me. She told me that my cholesterol was high
00:21
because I had no idea. I would’ve never gone to the doctor and asked to be screened for anything. I felt fine, um, and I was shocked.
00:29
I just thought, how could I have a high cholesterol? I made an appointment with my physician because in the back of my mind I just thought, you know,
00:39
I have family members that have, um, diabetic type two. Um, I was diabetic when I was pregnant. Um, I have many of my friends who’ve had many heart attacks
00:47
or family members, and I was just so frightened that that could be my future if I didn’t start really looking into what I needed to change.
00:59
And so I went to the doctor and he confirmed everything that that 15 minute screening said. And, and it was a nice wake up for me.
01:09
And I thought long and hard on what I wanted to do to change. And so June in 2022, I went
01:17
and joined a gym and decided if this was gonna work, that I needed to do it at least, um, five days a week.
01:25
Then when we started to go on vacations, I took my gym clothes with me and I was never that person to go to a hotel
01:32
and ask where the gym was. And that became me ’cause I, I was determined that no matter what, that I was gonna make time for me.
01:40
And I think that’s the difference is that before I had an excuse, I had kids at home. Everyone else came first, but I had never thought
01:47
that it was okay to put me first. And so all my kids are outta the house now. And I, I couldn’t excuse any reason
01:55
why I couldn’t do that now. So, so immediately I just felt so much better. It worked because I figured nothing else is happening
02:01
at five o’clock in the morning. And so I go get up at 4:15 every morning so I can be
02:09
to the gym and I work out for an hour and I have the rest of my, at six o’clock.
02:15
I’m still way ahead of the schedule and, um, it just sets my whole day in such a better way.
02:20
And I am just so much happier. So that’s how it all started from a 15 minute screening. When I went to the doctors,
02:26
she was like, what are you doing? What, what changed? And I told her, I was like, I had this screening.
02:34
And she’s like, I wish all my patients would get screened. It would just be so amazing. And she was just like, that makes me so happy
02:39
and that you’re doing something about it. I wish everyone would do that. Within eight weeks, I could tell a like physical difference in just how things were feeling.
02:45
The screening to me, was the caveat to everything. I would’ve literally never gone and been checked because I felt fine. I had no idea how things change so gradually
03:13
that you just aren’t aware of where it’s got. And so I, I think we all kind of think we’re exempt
03:23
from choices or that we’re still young enough that it happens to other people. I am 52 and I have four grown children.
03:30
I have five grand babies. I want to be responsible for myself. I want to take care of what I have.
03:40
Um, I wanna be here a long time to see my grandkids grow and to, to enjoy the next 20 years,
03:49
30 years that I have. I am a happier person. Um, my why is, is why not? Why wouldn’t you do that for yourself? Why would you not?
03:58
If someone told you, you could feel like you got 15 years back and you could have a really good night’s sleep
04:09
and you aren’t up all night worrying about things or you’re not, um, uncomfortable in your own body, why wouldn’t you do that?
04:18
I am so glad that that 15 minutes was just what I needed and I hope it is for other people too.
04:27
So it’s, yeah, it’s a big difference. And my grandkids come over. I can keep up and run back and forth in the yard and I’m not tired.
04:37
And I wish someone would’ve woke me up sooner about just making time for yourself. And really for me it is five o’clock in the morning
04:45
’cause there’s nothing else happening at five in the morning. There’s always something that I could, I’m too tired after work or a million things are going on
04:53
and I have things I have to get done, but nothing is demanding on my time at five in the morning,
05:01
I’ve taken care of what I needed to first, and I sleep. Oh my gosh, I sleep so much better.
05:07
I will not compromise on myself ever again, ever. ’cause it’s just, it’s not worth it.
05:13
“There’s a direct correlation between sleep and my blood pressure. I wouldn’t have known that without WebMD.”
Korbey White
Health coaching participant
My name is Korbey White. Back in 2021, when the pandemic was at its peak, I went into the doctor’s office
00:03
to get my physical and biometric screening. My, uh, primary care physician comes in and she looks at me and she goes, Corby, are you feeling okay?
00:13
And I said, yeah, I’m fine. What’s going on? She said, I’m about two seconds from admitting you to the hospital.
00:24
She said, Corby, your blood pressure is 185 over 110. And she said, Korbey, I want you to write down everything you eat
00:32
during the course of a week. So I sat there, I wrote it down, and I gave it back to her,
00:42
and she looked at me with her jaw to the floor. She said, I want you to go home, throw all
00:47
of this stuff away and go meet with this nutritionist. She looked at me, she said, you’re eating processed foods
00:53
three to four times a day, every day. That’s what’s going on. So I met with the nutritionist, went home,
01:03
threw the food away, spent a lot of money on the organic and good stuff, and my blood pressure went down a little
01:11
bit, but it didn’t go back to normal until I met with my coach Sarah from WebMD. She asked me, what time, every day do I go to the gym?
01:19
I told her 4:30 in the morning every morning, she said, okay, what time are you going to bed?
01:29
I said, somewhere between 11:30 and uh, midnight. She yelled at me through, through the phone. She said, there is no way your body is recovering
01:35
from a full day’s work and a workout with only three to four hours of sleep. So we took a look at the calendar
01:46
and we set goals for each week. Within two months, I was up to seven hours of sleep each night,
01:54
and my blood pressure went down to normal. And so literally, Sarah saved my life because as my primary care physician told me
02:02
that high blood pressure, pre-hypertension, and hypertension, those are the silent killers, especially as a black man. That was back in spring of 2021 that all of this took place.
02:13
The biometric screening, the nutritionist, me starting the coaching with WebMD. So now I, my health is really good. I’m in a good place.
02:26
I can tell when I’m not getting enough sleep. When I don’t get enough sleep, my blood pressure goes up.
02:37
When I get enough sleep, it’s back to normal. There’s a direct correlation between, uh, sleep and my blood pressure.
02:44
And I wouldn’t have known that without WebMD.
